Nicaragua is a very interesting destination for adventurous-minded families, though conditions can be variable and time has to be set aside for travelling. If time and budget allows, it can be combined very easily with Costa Rica.
Planning a family holiday to Nicaragua
Some caveats:
- Nicaragua is in the tropics, so young skin accustomed to northern climes needs extra protection.
- Nicaragua requires the usual vaccinations for any tropical country. Malaria is largely absent, but is reported in some parts (which you can avoid visiting).
- Nicaragua's standards of safety are different from those in the UK and may sometimes not be properly enforced. We cannot protect you from such differences.
- international flights to Nicaragua can be quite long. The total journey time for flights via Europe can be over 16 hours.
